Dream Big. Work Hard. Celebrate Success!

It's a Great Day to Be an Ocelot!

Awesome Ocelot of the Month

Daniel Cortez

Daniel Cortez has always set high expectations for himself: to always put school first and to excel. This passion was instilled in him by his parents and older brother who are very proud of his accomplishments. They celebrate his successes by trying new restaurants or visiting new places. They have much to celebrate - this year, Daniel received the President’s Award, which is given to students who maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher throughout 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.

An extremely dedicated student, Daniel wants to eventually pursue medical school with the goal of becoming a veterinarian. His two dogs at home sparked his interest in this field. Daniel wishes to attend a university with the best medical program, whether it is local or out-of-state.

His favorite subject currently is science; he especially enjoyed the experiments that involved chemical reactions during this past year. Daniel also stays busy being a part of the Science Olympiad team, but he still finds time to hang out with friends and relax.

Orange Grove is proud to have such a scholarly scientist as part of the Ocelot Tradition of Success!

My Personal Background...

I grew up in Hacienda Heights and attended Los Robles, Orange Grove, and Los Altos High. I attended Cal Poly Pomona where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Geological Sciences, a Master's Degree in Multimedia Education, and a Preliminary Administrative Service Credential. I taught science one year each in Baldwin Park and Rosemead until I got my job at my Alma Mater. I have been teaching at Orange Grove for 11 years including all 3 levels of science, computer science, health, math, STEAM, and ASB.

Outside of OGMS, You Can Find Me...

Hanging out with my 7 year old daughter and our zoo (2 dogs, 1 cat, 1 tortoise, 2 guinea pigs, 3 fish, and 2 frogs).

I LOVE Being an Awesome Ocelot Because...

There is something special about Orange Grove. The atmosphere is unique, we have the best campus in the district, and the most awesome students. I wouldn't want to work anywhere else!
