La Puente High School JROTC Students March to the Top in this Year’s Summer Leadership Camp
Posted 7/6/22

CITY OF INDUSTRY – La Puente High School’s Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) students participated in the annual Cadet Leadership Challenge, a three-day summer leadership camp designed to develop vital skills such as citizenship, motivation and endurance.

JROTC students from five schools attended the camp from June 24-26 at the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center and took part in a range of activities, events and competitions, including tug of war, archery and rock climbing. La Puente High School’s JROTC took first place in all three of the camp competitions.

The students were led by retired Master Sergeant General Roland A. Souza, who recently completed his fifth year at the helm of the JROTC program at La Puente High School. Students received leadership practice by helping instructors run the camp and taking charge of marching drills while learning to build their communication and teambuilding skills.

“Congratulations to all 15 cadets for participating in this incredible leadership opportunity,” Souza said. “Our students not only excelled and triumphed throughout the camp but represented the strength and leadership of La Puente High School and our District community.”
